REGISTRATION - KNOW YOUR CUSTOMER (KYC)
I’m getting hooked on online shopping these days because I find it convenient and the best way to beat the holiday rush especially if you’re working and the prices are affordable. I always use my payroll card that was linked to PayPal. But I’m starting to worry about credit and debit card fraud by purchasing stuff online.

‘Til I found an article about the new Globe’s GCash beep prepaid MasterCard (with EMV chip) so, we went to one of Globe stores at SM Southmall. The agent asked for a valid ID and while I’m completing the form the agent took a picture of me and my Voter's ID and I believe that she’s already conducting KYC. In less than an hour, I already have my prepaid card added beep feature with my name on it. (Which is cool because it’s personalized) The GCash representative told us that we just need to wait for (24 hrs) an SMS that the card is activated or ready for use.

The GCash MasterCard with EMV chip is available for Php150.00 while the added Beep feature will cost PHP 200. These new cards are already available through Globe stores with GCash booths starting December 2016.

You might find a Facebook page that some individual is selling the said prepaid card. I strongly suggest visiting the Globe’s designated location. You can find the list of their caravan here instead of purchasing cards from people who are selling it online. I tried to inquire someone from Facebook about how much is the Mastercard and it ranges from PHP200-400 including shipping.

For your safety buy the card from an authorized Gcash Globe store.

December 28, 2016 - I emailed Gcash support: gcashinquiries@globe.com.ph after 24 hrs because I haven’t received the activation of my Gcash MasterCard.


“What happened to the form, photo of my Voters ID, and personal info that I submitted to that globe store agent?” They also informed me to revisit the caravan store to do KYC again??

January 3-4, 2017 -  I sent an email again to Gcash support, about the status of my account. Until someone from their support, sent me an email:

The link: http://fb.com/gcashverify routed me to their Facebook page, I sent them an email about the verification of my Mastercard and they responded immediately. They asked for my personal info including the photo of my voter's ID, then they gave me another Facebook link to one of their GCash verification specialists. After 5 mins I started the verification video call with representative Gina. I’m actually at home at that time and I haven’t taken a bath haha! So there’s no need to put on makeup and wear a formal dress.

In less than 15 mins, the KYC was completed. Then I received a confirmation through email and text that the verification was successful.




Just to make sure that I passed KYC (Know Your Customer), I emailed Gcash customer care:
Yay!!!!! Let’s put the GCash to the test!

CASH IN
The next day, I went to the nearest 7-eleven convenience store to cash in P200.00 using their Cliq kiosk. This is the easiest way to load up your GCash account because you don’t need to bring a mobile phone to key in your passcode, valid ID, complete form, wait for your number to be called, or fall in line. Also, loading up GCash at 7-eleven is free of charge.


What if the 7-11 kiosk is offline? Open your mobile data/Wifi, Gcash app, and generate a receipt =)

STEP 1 - Tap Cash-In icon and Choose 7-11 Barcode




STEP 2 - Enter the desired amount, for example, PHP 1000 then tap the "Generate Barcode" button. No need to use comma, space, or period.

STEP 3 - Go to the counter and show the screen of your phone to the cashier. Also, I suggest not to screenshot or download the barcode because the scanner won't be able to read it. (Based on experience haha!)

GCASH-PAYPAL
You might be wondering why I cash in P200 because whenever you add or edit a debit/credit card to your PayPal account it’ll temporarily place a $1 or 100-P200 pre-authorization charge to check the validity and the balance on your card.

Also, you’ll receive the pin via SMS to get your refund.

GCASH MASTERCARD AS PAYMENT
Watsons: I purchased medicine using the prepaid card and after a minute I received an SMS about the amount of what I bought including the remaining balance. What a great way to go cashless!




GCASH LOAD:
SmartLoad: Using the Gcash app I purchased P15 Smart load for my own prepaid number and it went through. Also, if there’s no data/Wifi signal to use the app just dial *143# for free using your Globe mobile select GCASH, and then select BUY LOAD. You can send load to your own Globe/TM number or to other networks. The good news is no more transaction fee when buying load using GCASH.

POS PAYMENT ISSUE
December 18, 2017 - This is the first time that I encountered an issue using Gcash Mastercard at SM Supermarket. I was asked by the lady at the cashier if I have a different card because she’s unable to use it. Since I don’t have cash on hand I went to the nearest ATM to withdraw P500 from the prepaid card and use that amount to pay for the items.

When I went home, I found that the payment using the card went through because of the text message that was sent to my phone. In other words, I paid twice for the same items.

I immediately sent an email to gcashinquiries@globe.com.ph about it and I received a response from them the next day with a Dispute form, so I attached the photo of the receipt and screenshots from my phone.
I’m not expecting to receive the refund within a week because there’s a disclaimer on the form that the investigation may take 180 days or more.



December 29, 2017 - I received a message from Gcash through Facebook that the P116.75 refunded back to my account. This is a great New Year's gift for me. :)


GCASH BEEP MASTERCARD - NO PRINTED NAME

March 15, 2018 - I emailed GCash support to confirm if they'll still continue to produce the card with the Beep feature. As it turns out, they are going to stop selling the GCash Beep Mastercard but they will not take down the service of existing cards and will still be usable to MRT/LRT.

September 4, 2019 - All GCash Mastercard issued October 26, 2018, onwards will no longer feature a printed cardholder name.

PROS:
  • GCash is a BSP-regulated
  • If you forgot your card you can use the GCash app and scan the QR or generate a bar code.
  • Pay bills, load, and book movie using the app
  • For GCash cardholders, you can withdraw using the card in any of the 20,000 Bancnet ATMs (Verified GCash customer)
  • GCash to bank money transfer
  • Send and receive money free of charge (Gcash to GCash)
  • Rebates
  • Start investing through the app for as low as PHP 50!
  • Promos
  • No maintaining balance
  • Transfer money from your existing bank account/savings to your GCash.
CONS:
  • A service fee of P20 when cashing out using ATMs while P2.50 to check the balance.
  • Beginning Feb 2021, all newly issued GCash Mastercard EMV Chip Contact Cards are valid up to 2023 only.
  • No email support on weekends.
  • Unable to collect points/cashback by using the physical card
  • GCash Wallets that are dormant/no money activity for more than 6 months and with zero balances will be automatically closed/terminated (Terms and Condition).

      Hi! I believe your referring to freelance job. Most of the time, they're required to sign up to paypal so their employer can send them money thru Paypal. (applicable if the employer is based from the other country). GCash has a feature where you can link your paypal account.

    Warning lang tuwing may refund sa online purchases kelangan tumawag sa customer service nila na may refund ka kundi bye bye refund kahit may email notification na ang seller na binalik o di nila tinanggap payment mo. Nakakabadtrip lang kung medyo malaki yung purchase then up to six months waiting. Hayyysss

      I feel I'm waiting from no one and nothing. :( I'm about to file a dispute in paypal so they can just reverse the charge.

      I think thats the best thing to do while waiting to hear from GCash. I suggest to provide a complete details/proof regarding your dispute (screenshot/sms) to avoid going back and forth.

    Also a GCash user, very convenient sakin kasi nakakapagload ako sa family with rebates un load nila in any network, avail na rin sakin ang GCredit, Gcash Savemoney at GInvest, convenient din for me un Send Money ni GCash, nd ko rin natry mag purchase using Mastercard ko. Hopefully mabawasan un P20 na charge sa pag withdraw..kung nd naman transfer ko nalang sa Bank at dun ko nlng iwithdraw. Wala naman charge kung mag send to bank ang transaction
