Bye! Bye! Skin tags and Warts

11:30 AM

Also, she informed me that it can spread through skin contact which is alarming for me because I don't want to pass the warts to my partner or to anyone.
The good thing is my employer partnered with Medicard (Healthcare provider or health maintenance organization (HMO) is an organization that provides health coverage for a monthly or annual fee) I went to their satellite clinic in Festival Mall, Alabang to have my skin checked if I really have a wart or it's just a skin tag.

I only applied sunblock and lip balm with SPF because I think it would be better going to their clinic without makeup. Here’s a photo of my face before the procedure.

All this time I’m thinking that I only have bad acne on my face. As it turns out, I have warts and skin tags on my face and neck. Apparently, my health care card can only cover the expenses for my warts while I need to cash out to remove the tags since it’s not contagious.

Before the session a numbing cream was applied (white cream with no scent) on the areas with tags and warts, then it was covered with a clear tape for an hour and 45 mins for the anesthesia to take effect. Since it's my first-time haha.. I kept on asking the nurse what will gonna happen. :-D

Sorry about the sad face, it’s just that I can’t smile to make sure that the tape will stay in place plus the weird tingling sensation.

What’s the difference between skin tags vs warts?

Warts are typically small, rough, hard growths that are similar in color to our skin. It is also a viral infection called the human papillomavirus that is passed between people through skin-to-skin contact.

Tag is a small benign skin growth that is harmless but can be annoying. I also had this before in my underarm good thing that it fell on its own.

The dermatologist used a cautery pen to burn my warts and tags. During the session, I could smell my skin burning it's the same smell when a mosquito was zapped in an electric killer. It’s pretty much painless thanks to the numbing cream. However, when the doctor examined my face using a magnifying glass with the light she noticed a few warts that the nurse missed applying a numbing cream so, I need to undergo the pain just to remove warts, or else, it will spread again. It would feel like a very fine needle was tearing across my skin. Those ones were painful, am not going to lie.

The session was finished in less than 15 mins. As you can see the treatment area were reddish and swollen after. Also, I noticed that the scabs already formed.

The doctor told me to keep my face dry for 8 hours and apply a post cautery cream which is also available at Skin and body clinic for P250 (5g).

Also, do not pick on scabs and avoid using facial scrubs. I forgot to ask the dermatologist if I can continue my skincare routine, just to make sure I discontinued it until the scabs fall off.

Day 1
I applied post-cautery cream (right photo)

Day 6
The scabs starting to fall off and the treated areas were almost healed

PROS
- Safe, fast, and effective compared to home remedies because a professional
dermatologist will take care of your skin.
- My warts and tags were gone in just one session.
- Scabs were completely removed after a week.

CONS
- It costs Php2,375 (Skin tags on the face, neck, and a few tags on my chest) including the
cream.
- Some may find it hassle going out with scabs because it looks like a bad break out, so if
you need to attend a special event make sure to schedule the treatment ahead of time.

    1. Medicard can only cover warts removal while you need to cash out if you want them to remove skin tags. They consider it as skin beautification since skin tag is not contagious.
